Love in the Times of Recession

Valentines’ Day is right up there in the ranks of expensive holidays. While staying frugal and penny-wise is appreciated on a regular basis, using budeting as an excuse on V-Day would be many pounds foolish. To help keep the peace, a variety of businesses are offering deep discounts during this holiday.

Discout service websites such as Living Social and Groupon arrived to save the day for lovers around the U.S. LivingSocial offered deeply discounted candy to New York City residents on Tuesday. Two days later, Groupon offered $40 worth of flowers from FTD for $20.

Not only that, now through February 17, U.S. Cellular is offering buy-one-get-one-free deals on all Android powered smartphones. This includes: the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Samsung Mesmerize, a Galaxy S smartphone.

In addition, cruise lovers will be thrilled to hear that Costa Cruises launched a three-day sale that features eastern and western Mediterranean cruises from $449 per person per week with up to a $50 onboard credit per cabin on some sailings.

The sale is part of the Italian line’s “Month of Amore” promotion for February which honors Valentine’s Day with a weekly deal on a variety of Costa sailings.

Hopefully we’ll finally believe that “love doesnt cost a thing.”
